Inspired by Robert Hodgin’s “Mistakes are your friends” screen from FITC, I’ve posted some recent hiccups my computer has had. I’m not sure I would call them my friends, as they happened to cause a bit of stress but they’ll probably inspire me in the future.

The new blog post from FITC Toronto is massive. Read it on Deconstruckt. Also, check out some Flickr photos here.

I haven’t posted this news officially (because I’m lazy) but it’s better late than never. I’ve joined the Struck crew as an Interactive Designer in the new Portland office. The move from freelance to full-time has greatly improved my sanity (working and living in the same room is just crazy talk). I’ll post pics of the office soon.
There’s a lot of new stuff going down at Struck. [ They update frequently at struckcreative.com ] Today I wanted to drop in a word about the updates for Deconstruckt, Struck’s blog and show my contribution to the background collaboration (dark green swampy looking one). Here’s the official word on the updates:
The new and improved Deconstruckt sports a variety of enhancements. The most apparent of these are the slew of custom backgrounds that load randomly upon refresh. These backgrounds are designed by multiple Struckers, on and off of the design teams. Other improvements include a state-of-the-art AJAX commenting system, author avatars, a Flickr stream, an RSS feed, and amazing downloadable Struck wallpapers.
The most important enhancement to the site is the inclusion of multiple channels. The new Deconstruckt is essentially three blogs in one. ‘Create’ is the channel where you will find the latest and greatest concepts, design, art, and techniques that flow from the minds of the Struckers. ‘Build’ is essentially a labs channel. Struck’s interactives will be throwing down the hottest tips, trends and tech for the coder in you all. And ‘Play’ is a channel dedicated to the mischief and mayhem that continually plagues the studio.

My friends over at Substance have been busy bees in the last 365 days. Between searching for perfect Substance World Headquarters (moving three times) and launching sweet websites for Portland Trail Blazers, Cinco and Authenticity they’ve found (no actually) time to start up Substance Labs.
In the wake of celebrating their one year anniversary, they’ve launched their first “digital social experiment” at Logobama.com
“As our first project under the Substance Labs banner, we wanted to create something that can show how quick and easy it is to build a powerful digital media vehicle. We’ve created a lightweight Flash application that allows people to upload their photo, choose their color theme, and save their logo (their “logobama”) to use on social networking sites, or wherever else they might want to use it. We then save all the logos to Flickr where you can subscribe to the Logobama gallery on the Logobama Flickr page. How many personalized Obama logos will be created? We have no idea.”
Previous years I’ve tried to stay away from discussing anything political (along with religion and whose mom is a better cook) but I am impressed with Obama’s marketing strategy, “involving fonts, logos and web design in a way that transcends the mere appropriation of commercial tactics to achieve the sort of seamless brand identity that the most up-to-date companies strive for.” The effort that has gone into providing Obama with a solid design foundation is respectable.

Chicagoist post with lots of Obama inspired goodies.

PSYOP captured the essence of v-day perfectly in this animated short. [ Music by VHS or Beta ]
It’s strange how Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that I hate to love. It’s been hard enough doing the 8 Minute Abs Workout DVDs and eating healthy during normal days. Today I am supposed to ignore all self-restraint, but Cupid’s arrows don’t fly so well weighed down by a 5lb box of chocolates.
At the same time, I enjoy the suspense of whether the chocolate I plucked from the heart shaped box will taste like coconut goodness or dog food and I am a lady so OF COURSE I love flowers. Either way I wore pink AND red today so that should count for something.

Some sort of cord organization. Multiple times I day I get the urge to just throw everything out the window.
